Through It All

Experiencing an immense amount of insecurity when it comes to writing this blog and feeling less than confident about sharing personal insights about what the Lord is revealing throughout this research on the topic of a flourishing life, I am convinced that Through It All, there is perhaps a purpose somewhere in all my mess. Although I cannot pinpoint when this current journey actually found its origins, I am aware that one Defining Moment is likely connected to a workshop at Union University when Tim Elmore shared fascinating insights on generational theory that mirrored my own experiences with emerging adults in higher education.

As a result of Defining Moments like the workshop, a dissertation study related to intercollegiate athletics, student encounters over the years of teaching, and here lately, research conducted in preparation for scholarship activities, the Flourishing @ Life blog has created a personal avenue for the digestion and absorption of the amazing work of numerous authors, including the application of Scripture to everyday life. With an intentional focus to engage other professionals in various Seasons, traveling their own journey to a flourishing life, my aspiration was to create a space where each blog might be comprehended as a stand-alone entity, but also connect to common themes throughout, such as the Five Habits of a Flourishing Life. What I have come to recognize is that Through It All, I sense the Lord communicating (in very unusual ways) to my heart which translates into a compelling need to document this pilgrimage, no matter how Respectfully Mystified it leaves me.

In the past week, as many of the blogs written around this one demonstrate, it has been fascinating to witness the tactical role that Lasting Lyrics have played in allowing me to process some extremely personal realizations and, as I shared previously from Ken Costa, speak to an inner longing of my heart, putting into words emotions that might be difficult to express. One simple phrase that provides not only the title to several songs, but is a repeated refrain in many others, is the title of this post, Through It All. Although some readers might offer the opinion that these occurrences are just the engagement of my reticular activating system, I offer that they have a more divine origin and are required to remind this stubborn God-girl that Through It All, I have Someone who has my “six” in addition to my amazing Posse of friends and colleagues.

So, if you experience moments like I often do, when you need a reminder that your life just might have a greater purpose than what this world offers, please allow Lasting Lyrics from the following songs to serve as a reminder that you are not alone in your journey to developing the Habits of a Flourishing Life and there is Someone traveling the sometimes difficult roads with you! If you would like to share a story about when you felt the presence of others in your personal, professional, or spiritual journey, please take the time to respond in the comments below.
